Recount!!!

If the recount filed in Wisconsin caused Donald Trump so much consternation, what’s another one in Pennsylvania going to do for the delicate President. Jill Stein, made it official a few minutes ago, filing for a recount in Pennsylvania!

The Trump Chump Wagon….

It’s been a hell of a week for Donald Trump & Co.  It started with his selection for chief strategist, the “alt right” Steve Bannon.  From there, rumors have been flying that Trump & his team are trying to figure a role for his son in law in the White House.  That’s right, the same son in law, Jared Kushner that’s married to Ivanka Trump.  I’m sure there is no conflict of interest there, right? Ivanka will run Trump’s international business and her husband works at the White House for Dad, seems like a blind trust to me, emphasis on Americans being blind with their trust.

Trump had two rapid fire selections in the last 24 hours, the first being Gen. Mike Flynn being offered the National Security Advisor job, a role that will not need Senate confirmation.  Flynn’s most recent work  was paid speeches in Russia for Putin.  I guess as long as Hillary isn’t the one giving the speeches, republicans are ok with it.  Trump’s next pick was for Attorney General, and it was long time Trump backer, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions.  Session’s will be confirmed I’m sure, but he has also had the same problem most people Trump surrounds himself with, racially charged comments.  In Session’s case, he was rejected by the Senate in the late 80’s for a federal judgeship.  Expect his hearing to be bumpy.

What comes next is anyone’s guess, the list for Secretary of State seems to growing, not getting smaller.  It has ranged from the good, bad & the ugly.  Everyone from John Bolton, to Nikki Haley, to Mitt Romney, with several unnamed candidates in the mix.  Whatever comes will be as scary & entertaining as everything else this clown as down this year.

The New Trump Vocabulary…..

As the Trump Presidency gets ready to get underway, there will be a whole new vocabulary that we as American’s will need to learn.  Let’s go over some of those words shall we.

Alt-Right- this a term that really describes a movement that’s basically white nationalism.  With Steve Bannon being the new chief strategist, you will hear this term frequently. It’s fair to say this is a form of racism.

Normalize- This a term the press has used to describe Trump, since he is so far out of the normal, it is a way the press has to cover & report on Trump & try and make him seem like not such a lunatic.

Hate-Crimes-  Last year hate crimes were up 67% in this country against Muslim’s & African Americans.  With the rhetoric used in this campaign & the empowerment by right leaning voters, this is a phrase you will hear a lot sadly moving forward.

KKK & The American Nazi Party-  It’s been a long time since we have heard about these groups.  Both endorsed Trump’s campaign, and with Steve Bannon in the fold, you will hear from both groups much more than you ever have.

Stop & Frisk- this is something that is basically and has been ruled as such a violation of people’s civil rights, but that’s not going to stop Trump & his goons from bringing it back.  This is a great way for law enforcement to detain Muslims, African Americans & and any minorities they deem a “problem”.

I’m sure we will be adding to this list in the coming days and weeks, but I wanted to do my part to educate liberal & progressive America.

The Supreme Court Problem…..

So we all know that the Supreme Court seat that Republicans stole from President Barrack Obama this last year after the death of Anton Scalia will be filled, and more probable that not it will be filled by a conservative judge, guess what, this is what will count as the good news as far as the Supreme Court goes.  The Democrats & Liberals of this country have another problem, Ruth Bader Ginsberg.  Ginsberg, who most likely thought that Hillary Clinton would be elected, decided not to retire during President Obama’s last 4 years.  Well now that she hasn’t retired, there are several questions surrounding her.  For starters, Ginsburg is 83 years old, that’s right not a typo, 83 years old.  So assuming for the sake of argument she can somehow stay alive and coherent for the next 4 years she will be 87 years old at what we would hope be the end of a Trump presidency.  Ginsberg has subtly  suggested that she will not retire during Trump’s time in office.  In most cases hope isn’t a winning strategy, however in this case, hope is all liberals & democrats have.

The Apocalypse Day 7

It has been 7 days since the unthinkable and almost unspeakable has occurred.  Donald Trump is going to be our 45th President, and don’t believe the petition or any of the hype about faithless electors in the electoral college not voting for him.  In the last 7 days their has been all sorts of rumors flying about a potential cabinet for Trump, so let me say this, the names go from bad to worse.  About 10 days ago it was floated by the Trump campaign that Newt Gingrich would be the Secretary of State, cringe worthy to be sure.  However yesterday news started circulating that John Bolton was being considered for the job, making the Gingrich pick look great in retrospect.  This all pales in comparison to Trump selecting Steve Bannon from Breitbart News to be his chief strategist, basically his right hand man, the most powerful man in the West Wing, aside from Trump.  Now if you thought Trump said some inflammatory things on the trail, the string of headlines that Bannon has left in his wake is quite the impressive resume.  I believe the term used to describe him is called “alt right”, or as the Germans call it, Nazi.  Bannon’s resume is for another day though, as it would fill a blog or three.

The protesting going on around the country seems like it has no end in sight going from large city to large city, from college campus’s to high schools around the country.  I am on the record as supporting the protesters 1st Amendment rights, if done peacefully & most have been.  I do wish this energy could have spent & used before the election, though.  In an election that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, and lost the electoral by less than 100,000 votes, it begs the question, did all of these protesters vote?  My earnest hope is this eventually channels into something positive, and the outrage everyone has can be sustained.  Only time will tell on that front, we can only hope as the countdown until the midterm elections is already on!!

Ignorance was Bliss in Decision 2016

For many liberals & progressives the key to Donald Trump’s rise to the top was the lack of knowledge or voter information regarding their candidate & Hillary Clinton.  For whatever reason, and even though information is much more easy to come by, facts & the truth were a partnership that really never evolved with many Trump voters.  Social media stayed ablaze with fake new sites & if you had a nickel for every conservative voter that sourced one for that argument, you most likely would have struck it rich in 2016.  Another problem with the uninformed masses that comprised Trump voters was the older white voter who had no idea how to fact check or find if Trump was making things up out of whole cloth, which was the case most of the time.  It was estimated by factcheck.org that Trump was untruthful over 90% of the time.

Call it voter apathy, call it ignorance but when it came to Trump & Clinton, but people who voted for Trump chose to believe everything negative said about Clinton and ignore blatant facts about their candidate.  Most never believed that Trump has two fraud cases in Federal Court later this month, or 75 legal matters before the court, however most Trump voters believed that Clinton had already been convicted of a crime and was unable to hold any office.  Of course there was the Trump voters that believed Trumps claims & BS about President Obama not being from this country.  For me I have to look no further than my own family for some of this nonsense, I have a mother that believed Hillary Clinton is a mass murder & is the lead suspect in over 75 murders & a father who doesn’t believe that our new first lady posed nude and was photographed many many times in provocative poses, even after I showed him the pictures and articles, he still didn’t believe it.  My guess is anyone reading this had conservative family members that believed things like this & worse.  It doesn’t make the sting of this election any better, but at least we can have a chuckle or two.

Michael Moore Must Read….

Great letter from Michael Moore this morning.

Morning After To-Do List:
1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They have failed us miserably.
2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn’t let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must “heal the divide” and “come together.” They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.
3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn’t wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that’s about to begin.
4. Everyone must stop saying they are “stunned” and “shocked”. What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren’t paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all “You’re fired!” Trump’s victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.
5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: “HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!” The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don’t. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he’s president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we’ll continue to have presidents we didn’t elect and didn’t want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there’s climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don’t want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the “liberal” position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above).

Let’s try to get this all done by noon today.
— Michael Moore

Where to Begin…..?

Where do we start, and where do we go from here?  In the span of 24 hours Hillary Clinton went from an almost certain presidency, to her career in politics being effectively over.  It was one of the most shocking things that has ever occurred in American political history.  For Democrats, once the shock of last night wears off, it will only be a matter of time before the what if’s.  The biggest what if in my opinion was her decision to add Tim Kaine to the DNC ticket. Being from Virginia I have nothing against Kaine, but in a year where change was clearly in the air, picking another career politician was most likely not the best decision she made.  The youth of America was never wild at the prospect of a Clinton Presidency & Kaine was not the guy who was going to bring back that disenfranchised vote.  Clinton would have better served with someone like Bernie Sanders or hell how about Bernie Sanders himself.  It’s hard to believe a Clinton/Sanders ticket wouldn’t have won the contest in a walk last night. It’s hasn’t been done in awhile but former primary rivals teaming up has been done several times in American politics, Kennedy/Johnson, Reagan/Bush just to name a few.  For Democrats the second guessing of what it & where their party is going starts now.

For The Record….

Who Will Win Today?
It is has been a long, hard fought battle by all candidates on both sides of the aisle, that mercifully ends today. But who & what party comes out on top?
President

I believe the polls are much tighter that we think, so close in fact I think there is real possibility that Trump wins the popular vote, on that front I say the final margin is less than 1.5% either way. I think and believe Hillary Clinton will win the electoral college in the area of 275-285 votes.
Senate

There was a time I thought the Senate would go blue this year, but FBI Director Comey took care of that. It’s going to be a long hard fought battle today that will end in either a tie or the GOP having a one vote advantage.
House of Representatives

This is the easy one, the republicans have to great an advantage. The democrats will eat into it a bit today, but the GOP will still maintain a very solid lead in the house.
What do you think?
