The Funky Bunch…

It’s been said you are known by the company you keep. If this maxim holds true, what does this say about Donald Trump and his motley crew. If you’re keeping track, he has now had 4 people that has worked for him in the last 18 months that either indicted or have plead guilty to felonies. Most notable was his National Security Advisor Mike Flynn. Isn’t Trump the law & order guy? Wasn’t Hillary Clinton supposed to be the candidate that was going to be under constant scrutiny & investigations?

The Mueller Investigation continues to roll on and bear fruit. Time will tell what fruit is born from this investigation & more importantly what Republicans will actually do to hold this president accountable. As far as we the people go, stay informed & communicate with your Congressional leaders.

Fake President…

It’s hard to make the argument that Donald Trump isn’t an irresponsible jackass. Even his most ardent supporters have an extremely difficult time making a credible argument against it. Trump’s fake news mantra has caught on like wildfire, his merry band of deplorables eat it like candy. So much so that a man credibly accused of being a pedophile is successfully running for senate.

Much scarier that that though, is how this disease and fad is catching on with other dictators & authoritarians around the globe. People in those countries don’t have the same media and internet access that we have in the United States, so it’s a much scarier proposition that they are now less informed & less likely to believe the news. Just another example of how Trump has made our a much less safer place.

This is a great article from Politico on this frightening trend.

Seems like old times…

Something to keep in mind when reading this article, The Weekly Standard is a conservative publication. So what does it say when it gives one of its own such terrible grades. If you think a failing presidency is a shocking turn of events for Donald Trump, you haven’t paid attention. Trump was a very mediocre student in high school & into his college years. He failed at business, and to be staked to financial glory by his father Fred Trump. Even with all his advantages, he somehow managed to loose money when others prospered. Trump has filed bankruptcy six times, far more than any real successful companies or businessmen.

So, the fact that we are on the brink of a nuclear war with North Korea, legislation failures, infighting amongst his own party and staff. It was all there for us to see, sadly only the majority of us looked.

The End or the Beginning….???

Remember when you thought it was a joke that Donald Trump was running as a Republican? Do you still remember how relieved you were when he won the nomination, and that Hillary Clinton would soon be the President of the United States. As we know now, a funny thing happened along the way to Inauguration Day 2017.

The good feeling many of us had when Barrack Obama was president was quickly erased that cold November night. It was replaced by something darker & colder & much more somber. How could there be 60 million Americans that could have voted for Trump ? During the election, Trump wasn’t shy who he was or what he stood for. Yet there they were, 81% of white Christian evangelicals voting for him, with all that knowledge & a side of the Access Hollywood tape.

The real question remains though, was this a wake up call for the rest of us, #TheResistance, will this re-energize the left in 2018? Is this just the beginning, are there more like Trump & Roy Moore?

This is a great article from New York Magazine & Frank Rich on that topic.

Stay Classy Trump

Once again the worst person on the planet shows us all why he has that title. Tonight President Trump, it still heaves me out typing that, ended a program for displaced Haitians by an earthquake. Conventional wisdom says the main reason is these people are not Trumps favorite color, white or orange. Just another shameful day in Trump’s America.

Flirty Kellyanne….

In case you missed it this morning, Kellyanne Conway, runner up to the worst person on the planet in 2017, was on Fox & Friends. If you listened closely, you could hear her say vote for Roy Moore. Conway stated that the people of Alabama needed to vote for the candidate that represented Donald Trumps agenda, and that wasn’t Doug Jones. For a White House that has played coy over the last few weeks, this was the closest thing to an endorsement and the furthest thing from condemnation.

I understand partisan politics, I get it. However, this is something else all together. This man, I use the term loosely has been accused of sex with minors. Something he has not flatly denied. How have we sunk this low that the sitting governor of Alabama a woman, Kay Ivey went in front of cameras and said she believed the women, but would vote Moore anyway. Where does this leave us, what exactly is going to be rock bottom in the Trump era of Republicanism?

Alabama the world is watching….

Alabama, there are many people that think when voting day arrives, you will do the wrong thing. I’m one of those people that think the voters of Alabama will ignore conventional wisdom & they will vote Roy Moore. Why not right, these are the same type of voters that put Donald Trump into office. It’s also one of the reddest states in America, Trump maintains a 60% approval rating in Alabama. Overall, Trumps approval rating is in the 30% range.

Hope has been in short supply since Trump was elected President, however that’s what we have with Alabama. Maybe there are enough voters that will not ignore the facts about Roy Moore & remember how bad it went the last time they gambled on voting for a sexual predator. Alabama, do the right thing & vote for Doug Jones.

DACA’s Dark Day

On Tuesday most likely, President Trump will announce an end to President Obama’s DACA program. If your an ardent Trump supporter, this news probably thrills your little xenophobic heart. However, if your one of the roughly 65% of Americans that didn’t vote for Trump, its another blight & embarrassment. If your one of the Dreamers, it’s a sad end too your “American Dream”.

There are a great many things Trump has promised and hasn’t delivered. No Obamacare repeal anywhere in sight. His vaunted infrastructure package has yet to see the light of day. The “wall” will most likely never be built & if so, we the people will pay for it.  This however is one campaign promise the bigoted and xenophobic autocratic President will deliver on.  Not surprising or shocking for a man who just a few weeks ago defended the KKK & Nazi’s.

Spanning The Country

Taking a quick look around the country today, we makes stops at the two newspapers of record, The New York Times & The Washington Post. Despite what you have heard from our fake President, these two papers have been getting it right for decades & more lately they have accurately hammered President Trump on his many many missteps.

The biggest story today is North Korea boasting yet again about testing of nuclear weapons.  It has yet to be determined if these latest claims are accurate or more hubris from Kim Jong Un. One thing is certain, our lack of experience & real leadership in the White House & at the State Department. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been grossly overmatched during the last few months with the nuclear threat from North Korea. If tweet threats counted, the U.S. would be safe & sound, however they do not.  One thing is certain, no one in this current administration with the possible exception of Defense Secretary of State James Mattis seems to have any possible solutions that go beyond basic syllables.

In other news making headlines across the country was President Trump & FLOTUS doing another photo op in Texas with victims of Hurricane Harvey.  In typical Trump fashion there was plenty of sizzle & very little steak. Trump was caught on camera asking people about the boxed meals he was passing out, bragging about the sanitary gloves not fitting his hands & thanking everyone for coming out, as if they had a choice.

Trump Returns to Texas, With Words of Encouragement and Triumph

The Resistance Pledge!!

This is long but it is important. This is where I stand. I feel that our 45th President, his Cabinet and administration, and the majority of Republicans in Congress are a real and active threat to me, my way of life, and all the people I love. Some people are saying that we should give Trump a chance, that we should “work together” with him because he won the election and he is “everyone’s president.” I am willing to do all of that if/when his policies seem reasonable.

•I will not forget how badly he and so many others treated former President Barack Obama for 8 years…

•I will not “work together” to privatize Medicare, cut Social Security and Medicaid.

•I will not “work together” to build a wall.

•I will not “work together” to persecute Muslims.

•I will not “work together” to shut out refugees from other countries.

•I will not “work together” to lower taxes on the 1% and increase taxes on the middle class and poor.

•I will not “work together” to help Trump use the Presidency to line his pockets and those of his family and cronies.

•I will not “work together” to weaken and demolish environmental protection.

•I will not “work together” to sell American lands, especially National Parks, to companies which then despoil those lands.

•I will not “work together” to enable the killing of whole species of animals just because they are predators, or inconvenient for a few, or because some people want to get their thrills killing them.

•I will not “work together” to remove civil rights from anyone.

•I will not “work together” to alienate countries that have been our allies for as long as I have been alive.

•I will not “work together” to slash funding for education.

•I will not “work together” to take basic assistance from people who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.

•I will not “work together” to get rid of common sense regulations on guns.

•I will not “work together” to eliminate the minimum wage.

•I will not “work together” to support so-called “Right To Work” laws, or undermine, weaken or destroy Unions in any way.

•I will not “work together” to suppress scientific research, be it on climate change, fracking, or any other issue where a majority of scientists agree that Trump and his supporters are wrong on the facts.

•I will not “work together” to criminalize abortion or restrict health care for women.

•I will not “work together” to increase the number of nations that have nuclear weapons.

•I will not “work together” to put even more “big money” into politics.

•I will not “work together” to violate the Geneva Convention.

•I will not “work together” to give the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi Party and white supremacists a seat at the table, or to normalize their hatred.

•I will not “work together” to deny health care to people who need it.

•I will not “work together” to deny medical coverage to people on the basis of a “pre-existing condition.”

•I will not “work together” to increase voter suppression.

•I will not “work together” to normalize tyranny.

I will not “work together” to eliminate or reduce ethical oversight at any level of government.

•I will not “work together” with anyone who is, or admires, tyrants and dictators.

•I will not support anyone that thinks its OK to put a pipeline to transport oil on Sacred Ground for Native Americans. And, it would run under the Missouri River, which provides drinking water for millions of people. An accident waiting to happen.

This is my line, and I am drawing it.

•I will stand for honesty, love, respect for all living beings, and for the beating heart that is the center of Life itself.

•I will use my voice and my hands, to reach out to the uninformed, and to anyone who will LISTEN:

That “winning”, “being great again”, “rich” or even “beautiful” is nothing when others are sacrificed to glorify its existence.
